The office of the Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) at Mumbai was set up in the year 1970 for dealing exclusively with the customs Anti-smuggling work in the Mumbai region. This Preventive Commissionerate comprises of two wings viz. (i) Rummaging and Intelligence (R&I) Wing located at the New Customs House, Ballard Estate, Mumbai, with staff on the strength of the Mumbai Customs and (ii) Marine & Preventive (M&P) Wing located at New Marine Lines, Mumbai with the staff on the strength of the Central Excise, Mumbai.
